We report on the fabrication of silicon carbide (SiC) nanocrystals using a continuous scanning mode laser for the ablation of pelletized SiC microparticles (NPs).
Ion induced bending is a promising controlled technique for manipulating nanoscale structures. However, the underlying mechanism of the process is not well understood. In this letter, we report a detailed study of the bending mechanism of Si nanowires (NWs) under Ga+ irradiation.
Elevated temperature sliding contact experiments were carried out on an Al-Mg alloy AA5083 to study the formation of oxide fibres on their surface. Deformation and friction tests were conducted at a constant strain rate of 4×10−2 s−1 at temperatures 350 °C, 450 °C and 545 °C.

Significant loss of life and property results each year from fires fueled by polyurethane found in household furnishings. Established layer-by-layer flame retardant systems were combined to produce a stacked nanocoating for flame retarding polyurethane foam.

Crown jewel-structured (IrPd)/Au trimetallic nanoclusters are prepared by galvanic replacement reaction using Ir/Pd nanoclusters with a structure of Ir rich in core and Pd rich in shell as mother clusters.
Sr-doped LaCoO3 has a complex magnetic phase diagram, which is believed to be directly correlated to changes in the crystal structure and ordering of the Co3+ spin states.

Engineering domains in ferroelectric thin films is crucial for realizing technological applications including non-volatile data storage and solar energy harvesting. Size and shape of domains strongly depend on the electrical and mechanical boundary conditions.
This work was performed in collaboration with Dr. Phil Rice and Dr. Teya Topuria of IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, CA who provided expert assistance as well as the TEM specimen and access to their microscope facilities.
