Considerations
The N K-edge shows rich fine structure and chemical shifts identifying local bonding effects. Nitrogen can be mobile under the beam and can show rapid change of concentration under a focused beam. Nitrogen in Si-oxynitride has been shown to pile up in front of a scanned beam.
