Considerations

Molecular H2 can be seen with EELS. In other compounds, hydrogen donates its electron to the host and does not have an EELS signal of its own.
The presence of hydrogen can often be inferred from its effect on the plasmon energy or host element ELNES.
At very high energy resolution (<10 meV), hydrogen vibrational modes can be seen in the low-loss spectrum.
