In spectroscopy, the projector lens crossover image is magnified and projected onto the camera. When properly adjusted, the observed CCD image consists of sharp vertical lines representing electrons of a particular energy. Line displacement in the horizontal (or dispersive) direction indicates a difference in energy between electrons.
